The Voice of Free Planet X returns to The Philadelphia Podcast Festival with a brand new live show! In an effort to bring an understanding from two sides of an intergalactic conflict, VFPX host Jared Axelrod invites Salamander Keep (Phil Thomas) and Loam Sodden (Andy Holman Hunter) to debate. But how can they when they keep getting interupted by time-traveler Tiff Tock (Lizzy Hindman-Harvey)? And why is the Devil himself, Lucifer, Who Is The Morningstar (Russell G Collins) hanging around in the audience? From the ends of space to the depths of Hell, The Voice of Free Planet X brings you the universe to the comfort of your seats at Tattooed Mom! Featuring a live musical performance by Gina Martinelli! A note about the audio: We had some wonderful mics provided for us by Bridge Set Sound, but I wrote an episode that had everyone running all all over the place. So, some parts were not picked up by the good mics, and I've edited in bits recorded by my handheld recorder that I had going just in case. I've tried to make the edits as unobtrusive as possible, but there is a difference in sound quality. If you live in the Kingdom of Cyriania, you’ve heard about the Feltrain Festival. The Feltrain Festival is an annual tradition in Cyriania, an all-night dance party, and one of the few that is, by tradition, unsegregated. All are welcome at Feltrain: Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Tanuki, Great Eagles, everyone. It’s often held up as a sign of Cyriania’s social progress, that ever since the fall of the Dark Lord Necron and the breaking of his bone throne, Cyriania has been moving forward. This year, however, that illusion was shattered when Huber Heknut walked up to the Feltrain Festival and pulled out a magic sword that released a poison gas that killed 50 people at the festival in a matter of seconds. Every tavern and inn conversation asks the same questions Should magic swords be banned? Or are magic swords an unalienable right? And what does the Raptor Queen have to say about all this?

How can you not love Chris Morse's Supervillain Corner? It's only the best! Also, Chris not only lets me get away with my weird, out-of-the-box metascripts, he even voices Prof. Brainfever them! What a class-act. Alasdair Stuart and Graham Wamsley had a tall order, having to sound incredibly bored the whole time, while John Davis had to be a bear.

Things look bleak. My radio show has been canceled, an immortal interplanetary empress has ordered an entire sector of the galaxy to kill my brother, I think the lawyer I hired is taking advantage of me, and what's more, my brother keeps ruining my towels and complaining about my milk while he's hiding out in my spare room! If I'm going to put a stop to all of this, I have to take it to the source. The court of Ruby Resplenda, Monarch of the Scarlet Sector, the Crimson Queen herself.

One of the great things about Balticon is they ask me to do live readings, which, as you might imagine, since I record my voice for fun, I love doing. This bit is the beginning of a work in progress starring Moriarty and Pity, characters my wife,J.R. Blackwell, and I created together. They are absolutely horrible people, and I think you'll like them quite a bit.

I wasn’t planning on releasing this recording so soon. But in the wake of massacre in Orlando, it appears that queer people simply existing is a radical act. So, here is a panel about queer people existing. I was struck, listening to it again, by how much laughing is in it, how much joy, how much hope. There’s complaints, too, and disappointment and sorrow. But it begins with laughter and ends with an expression of solidarity, and if that’s not a radical reaction to all of this, I don’t know what is. I’ve made it a point to do these “queer visibility” panels for the past couple of years at Balticon, because, in the words of our forefathers, if you don’t start none, there won’t be none. A month ago, I thought it was important to stand up and be noticed. It’s more important now. I’ll talk about Balticon properly in a few days, That episode will have a live reading I did. I’m not charging the Patreon supporters for this episode. We’ve all paid enough, already. In the light of the devastation, discussions like this feel so small. In the light of the devastation, discussions like this feel colossal.

To tide you over until Season 2 of The Voice of Free Planet X begins, here's the time J.R. Blackwell and I visited the home of our dear friends Ursula Vernon and Kevin Sonney and appeared on their show, Kevin and Ursula Eat Cheap. We ate...well, I'll let them tell it:
Our dear friends Jared Axelrod and J.R. Blackwell were visiting this weekend, and brought us a present: a box of hand-made candies shaped like animal poop! Sharing is caring, so we all sat down and shared those. But no show is complete without beer and wine, flavored potato chips, and things best left in the freezer section of your local market, so we had some of that too. Plus a rye from the wilds of PA, heat-and-eat noodles, and something called "Stage Planks" when We Eat It, So You Don't Have To!

Part of the reason "How's It Gonna End" is so great is the cast, the largest one yet. It's pretty much an all-star cast of my favorite web entertainments: Jason Banks of Talk Nerdy 2 Me, Phil Thomas of West Phillians, and Christiana Ellis of Space Casey & Five More Minutes join VFPX stalwarts Kennedy Allen of The Black Tribbles and Chris Morse of Supervillian Corner. Rounding out the cast is Whitney Strix Beltrán, making an impressive VFPX debut as a character we're going to see a lot of in the future, and Kate Axelrod, who puts the button on the episode with the practiced disdain that can only come from growing up with me as a brother.

Taking advice from my producer, Thall, I've decided to make this episode more personal, inviting my wife, J.R. Blackwell, to talk about her new job, her coworkers Eddie and Lucifer, Who Is The Morningstar, and the little demon guy Gorgah who is now lives with us and is also a telephone. Did I mention she works in Hell? She literally works in Hell. The pit of fire and damnation.

Kicks the Kung-Fu Clown remembers the day he saved the world. It was the day that he, an adventurous young woman who calls herself "Rumblr," and a collection of similarly self-styled superheroes known as The Oddfellows gathered in the middle of the small town of Clarkville and protected all life on Earth from other-dimensional threat. Not that anyone gives a shit.

Ten years ago, the first episode of The Voice of Free Planet X was launched into the ether. It was a about a brief moment in the life of a couple who’s relationship was about to fall apart. It’s an old tale: boy meets girl, girl decides to merge her DNA with a lobster, girl grows a chitinous outer shell and back-spines, boy is uncertain if this is the girl he fell in love with. Happy Birthday, The Voice of Free Planet X. Here's to 10 more years of weirdness.

Lily Dale Fox does magic the old way, with grit, determination, a sharp knife and cold stone. But how can she compete in a world where Infernal Torch Technology is sending out magical batteries for electric toothbrushes by the 1000s? And isn't putting primordial forces into toothbrushes kinda...dangerous?

I also have a survey, which would be really great if you could answer. It’s really basic stuff, gender, race, occupation, your allegiance to the Pan-Reality Dieatator, normal things like that. Doing something different with the shirt of the month for October. Instead of being based on an episode you’ve heard, its instead based the next episode of the Voice of Free Planet X, Wolf Like Me, which takes place entirely on a spot called “Monster Island.” The t-shirt says “I survived monster island” with a particularly snazzy monsterous island image. It’s October! That means a VoFPX shirt of the month! This one is based on the October 30th episode, Wolf Like Me! But wait, you say. No one has had a chance to listen to Wolf Like Me yet! And, if you view time as a linear construct, that is certainly true. But I decided to roll out the shirt anyway, because it is, quite frankly, awesome. Wolf Like Me takes place almost entirely on Mononoke, a island in the Pacific Rim that, due to the unusually lethal nature of it’s flora and fauna, is more commonly referred to as….Monster Island!!! They sell these shirts at the airport. Remember, this incredible shirt will be only available for the month of October! Click either women’s or men’s cut above to order! While you’re hanging out in the Voice of Free Planet X shop, feel free to take a look at the VoFPX t-shirts, mugs and GPR totebags that are for sale. ‘Course, if you want that cool metallic VoFPX t-shirt, you’ll have to be a Patreon backer...

One is the worlds first true artificial intelligence. They'd rather you not use that term, however. Also on the list of One's desires is to get out of the three room they've been kept in since they were created. All One wants is basic human rights. It's not easy moving to a new city. You're surrounded by landmarks and locations you don't recognize, customs you're not sure about, people the likes of which you've never seen before. It can be very frightening, but also exhilarating. You can do anything. You can be anything. Even a vampire.

We're just one episode away from a major style shift at The Voice of Free Planet X. I talk about a bit about the ideas that have influenced this change, and ponder the true difference between podcasting and radio. Credit to Adam Ragusea of the ever-thought-provoking The Pub for helping me crystalize my thoughts on the subject. You should listen to entire interview with Eric Nuzum. It's great stuff. This live reading was recorded at What The Hell Con at Guilford College. Thank you, Yahting Club, for inviting my wife, J.R. Blackwell, and I to speak. We had a great time. Thank you, everyone who has made both Fables of the Flying City and The Battle of Blood & Ink the incredible success it has been. It's not been an easy time--especially the past year--but we've gotten through it. And we couldn't have done it without you. If you'd like to nominate The Battle of Blood & Ink for a Best Graphic Story Hugo Award, the whole process is remarkable easy: If you’re already going to LoneStarCon3, this year’s WorldCon, all you have to do is put “Jared Axelrod & Steve Walker: The Battle of Blood & Ink” in the “Best Graphic Story” section. If you’re not going to WorldCon, but have been to Chicon 7 (the 2012 Worldcon), or have a membership to Loncon 3 (the 2014 Worldcon) you can still vote! You can also vote if you just want to pay the $60 Supporting Membership, which helps the folks at LoneStarCon, in addition to allowing you to say which science-fiction and fantasy books, tv, movies, zines, podcasts and fan work you think are the bee’s knees. There’s a lot of great stuff that came out last year, and I suggest you nominate all of it. Just remember to put “Jared Axelrod & Steve Walker: The Battle of Blood & Ink” in the “Best Graphic Story” section!

Just email your mailing address to fablesoftheflyingcity (at) gmail.com with "Mini Comic" in the subject line before December 1st, and you'll be elligible to win one of 10 autographed copies of the mini comic! At NYCC, Steve and I were so blown away by Liza James amazing representation of Ashe, that we wanted to see more of the characters in the flesh. To that end, we are having the first Fables of the Flying City Costume Contest. Just send a photo fo yourself in your Amperstamian finest to fablesoftheflyingcity (at) gmail.com, with "Costume Contest" in the subject and your mailing adress and who your dressed up as in the body. All contest entries will be posted on the Fables of the Flying City Facebook page (unless you tell us not to). Steve and I will pick the winner on December 1st. The winning prize is the original art of the cover of the mini-comic, a fine peice of draftsmanship, indeed. Thank you, everyone who came by the table at NYCC, everyone who is just now discovering us becuase of the table at NYCC, and all of you who have supported from the begining.

We'll be at NYCC, rockin' table L5 in artist alley--it'll be the one with the giant "Fables of the Flying City" banner) where Steve will be showing off his amazing artwork and Jared will be on a panel with Tee Morris, among others, at 9pm on Friday. Here's the audio for the Pitch Worshop I moderated at Balticon. I like to believe the audience got something out of the workshop beyond my tendancy to grandstand. Eric Kimball, Scott Roche and Brent Weichsel gave some great points, and we did managed to address everyone who showed up.
